The midsize truck market is making a comeback and we checked out some of our favorites at DGDG. Midsize trucks have full sized personalities and are loaded with features and capabilities, all with a lower price tag than full size trucks. Midsize trucks are fun to drive, easier to park and have lots of modern technology.
The 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat is the best choice for a combination of technology, power, and fuel economy. The Lariat trim comes with leather seats, LED headlights, and co-pilot 360, which comes with loads of safety features, including blind spot indicators, automatic high beams, and lane keep assist. The technology package also includes adaptive cruise control.
The Ranger comes with a 2.3L turbocharged 4-cyclinder Ecoboost engine that gets 270 horsepower and 260 LB-Ft of torque. It has a 10 speed transmission and you can expect to get 21 MPG city and 26 MPG hwy. The Ranger is our choice for best daily driver, but is also fun off-road. The FX-4 Off-Road package includes skid plates, exposed steel bash plate, electronic locking rear differentials, and multiple terrain management modes to control features in the drivetrain.
2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison has the most horsepower and is the most aggressive on our list. The Colorado ZR2 Bison has a 3.6L V-6 with 308 horsepower and 275 Lb. Ft of torque. You can expect to get 16 MPG city and 18 MPG hwy. The Bison has Multimatic shocks and aftermarket parts from AEV including a front bumper with winch provisions, a rear bumper with recovery points, 5 steel skid plates, and fender flares.
2020 Jeep Gladiator has the highest towing capability on our list at 7,650 lbs and has a removable roof! The Gladiator is trail rated and is great at technical off-road scenarios. The Gladiator has a 3.6L V-6 engine with 285 horsepower and 260 Lb. Ft of torque. You can expect to get 16 MPG city and 23 MPG hwy. You can either get an 8 speed automatic transmission or a 6 speed manual. The Rubicon is the top of the line trim level and comes with FOX shocks, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and an electronically disconnecting sway bar. The Gladiator has a UConnect infotainment system, including Off-Road Pages which gives you several digital gauges, as well as a trail cam system to see where you are placing your wheels.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali with Duramax Diesel is the most luxurious on our list and has the highest amount of torque. The Canyon Denali has 181 horsepower and 369 Lb. Ft of torque. You can expect to get 19 MPG city and 28 MPG hwy. You get heated and cooling leather seats, a heated steering wheel, wood trim on the dash, chrome finishes on the exterior, 20-inch wheels, a bedliner, and GMC’s Quiet Innovations to help curb the diesel engine noise.
