2021 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe

Introducing the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The original go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle, now comes in a plug-in hybrid.  The first Jeep Brand hybrid in North America gives you a plug-in electric boost with an impressive 375 hp, 470 pound-feet of instant torque, and a manufacturer’s estimated total driving range of 400 miles.

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven Jeep® Brand 4×4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster, and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component.

With a full charge, Jeep expects the Wrangler 4xe to offer up to 25 miles of all-electric driving range. Similarly, the brand anticipates the SUV to manage 50 MPGe. The Jeep 4xe can be fully charged in around two hours when plugged into a 240-volt Level 2 charger.

The 4xe offers three drive modes: Hybrid, which serves as the SUV’s default setup and uses both gasoline and electric power as needed; Electric, which avoids using the gas engine until the battery depletes its charge; and eSave, which affords the driver the option to maintain the battery’s current charge or use the gas engine to increase the charge of the battery. There’s also a Max Regen function, which increases the amount of regenerative braking from the electric motors.

The 4xe boasts a pair of solid Dana 44 axles, a two-speed transfer case that enables full-time four-wheel drive, 10.8 inches of ground clearance, and the ability to ford up to 30 inches of water. Front and rear tow hooks and a handful of skidplates ensure all Wrangler 4xe models remain worthy of Jeep’s “Trail Rated” badge. 

From the outside, the 4xe can be distinguished from other Wranglers by special Electric Blue accents. The interior duplicates the aesthetic, with Electric Blue stitching on the seats and trim panels. There is a dashboard-mounted charging indicator, model-specific gauge cluster, and distinct infotainment system menus.
